Billet Grinding is the conditioning of billets, blooms, slabs and ingots in large and medium size steel industries to remove defects such as surface cracks, seams, pin holes, slag patches etc. The advantages of this operation are reduced cost and higher productivity as compared to scarfing and milling. Billet grinding wheels are large wheels of 400mm diameter and above, up to 600 mm, Cold Pressed resinoid bond wheels are available for speeds up to 48 m/s. These areused on swing frame grinders with head leads up to 200 kgs. Hot Pressed resinoid bond wheels are available for speeds of 45, 60 & 80 m/s.

These are used on automatic billet grinding machines such as Centro maskin, Noritake etc. with head loads of 1 ton. The Hot Pressed Wheels are manufactured with special Zirconia Alumina abrasives, which facilitate very high stock removals. Normal Speeds of operation:
